Don't Hate Me Cause I'm Animated.

Monday, March 11, 2002:

Okay, I just had an apiphany (sp?), for the past 2 and a half weeks, I've been stressing over improving my style, trying to go more relistic; and quite frankly, up until a few days ago, I was just frustrated with the way I draw. Just recently, I did an animation of one of my old characters for one of my classes; and it hit me! I was having fun while I was animating this character. Let me explain. See, back in the day, before I was into anime, I emulated 2 different styles of drawing. The Warner Bros. style and the simplified style of Craig McCracken (Dexters Lab, Power Puff Girls). Back then, I had lots of characters and did tons of comics. I thought about it for a while and came up with this: Back then, I wasn't trying to impress anybody. I drew because it was fun. And it shows. Now because I'm in art school, I feel like I'm in constant competition with everybody else, and it shouldn't be like that. For a while now, I've wanted to do a comic, but I've been so mixed up in camera angles and anatomy and making sure all my art looks perfect; I can't remeber the last time I did a decent comic. For the longest time, I've wanted to "Americanize" my art style and now's a good time to start. I pretty much mastered the WB style back in high school, and I haven't untilized it since. If I incorporate what I already know with what I know now, maybe drawing will mean something to me again.
